Daniel Gafford has only played seven games with the Washington Wizards, but early signs are pointing to him being the rim protector the team has yearned for quite sometime. The recently acquired center has flashed his potential by having a block party over the course of two games.
A night after having four blocks against the New Orleans Pelicans, Gafford blocked another four shots Saturday against the Detroit Pistons. He became the first Wizards player since 2013 to have at least four blocks in consecutive games.
Marcin Gortat was a key cog in Washington’s defense for a majority of five seasons. He too was acquired in trade. But, Gafford has arrived in Washington eight years younger. Thus his stay will hopefully be much longer than Gortat.
Since joining the Wizards from the Chicago Bulls in March, Daniel Gafford has been a glimmer of hope for Washington.
In the seven games he has appeared in, the Wizards are 6-1. His presence has been felt as a shot blocker, just ask Zion Williamson and the Pelicans.
Wizards head coach Scott Brooks called Gafford a “big difference-maker” already. However, it’s looking like he could be much more in the team’s future makeup moving forward.
