The Washington Capitals poured on the goal scoring Saturday, beating the New York Islanders 6-3. It was a far contrast from Thursday night when an Evgeny Kuznetsov’s shootout goal gave them a 1-0 win over the Isles.
It was Kuznetsov who starred again Saturday, picking up three points with two assists and one beauty of a goal in the third period that stamped the Capitals win.
Kuznetsov correled the puck on the Islanders offensive zone and knifed through the ice going coast-to-coast before depositing the puck past Ilya Sorokin to extend the Capitals lead to 5-3.
Kuzy has had his struggles this season after overcoming a bout with COVID-19. However, he has picked up the pace as of late. He has seven points in his last four games, registering at least one point in all but one of those four. The game he didn’t get a point he clinched the win in a shootout.
Along with Daniel Sprong, Kuznetsov stepped up big time Saturday against the Islanders in the absence of Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin missed the game with a lower body injury and is considered day-to-day moving forward.
