Once upon a time, Michael Jordan came out of his second retirement to play for the Washington Wizards. Jordan played two forgettable seasons in Washington. Except the fact he averaged 20 or more points both seasons, and he led the Wizards on a nine-game win streak.
On Sunday, the current Wizards led by Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook won their eighth straight game, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-110. It’s the time first the Wizards have won eight in a row since the Jordan-led Wizards did so in December 2001.
When informed it was the franchise’s longest win streak since Jordan’s days, Beal simply replied “Damn.”
Then he went on to say his only memory of Jordan with the Wizards was the GOAT’s two-hand block of Ron Mercer.
“The only Jordan memory I have of him on the Wizards was when he blocked the shot with two hands and just grabbed it off the glass,” Beal said per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports. “That’s the only memory I have of him on the Wizards
That was 20 years ago. Beal was a very young eight years old and living in St. Louis. So forgive the lad if he cannot remember much of the blimp in Jordan’s hall of fame career with Washington. Nonetheless, Beal is embarking on one of the greatest careers in Wizards franchise history in recent memory.
If Beal and the Wizards have their way, there will be plenty memories of Beal in a Washington uniform. The 27-year old guard is enjoying his ninth season with the team that drafted him third overall in 2012.
