The Washington Football Team made an under-the-radar selection with the 19th overall pick, taking Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis. Washington feels strong about his flexibility, as they believe he can play all three linebacker positions.
His tape, measurements and ceiling all are intriguing and makes him potentially the steal the first round. Davis has high praise from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, which included being compared to another under-the-radar linebacker.
Darius Leonard was a second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 out of South Carolina State. Leonard has been an All-Pro in each of his first three seasons, earning first-team honors in 2018 and 2020 and second-team in 2019. He also was the 2018 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Leonard has great flexibility but has made his calling on the outside as a Will Linebacker, a position that Davis ultimately will get to play, if not the Mike. Much like Leonard, Davis can do just about everything on the field. He can play the run, tackle and is solid in pass coverage. Washington’s front office and decision-makers hope Davis progresses in similar ways like Leonard.
