Kent Bazemore riled up Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards fan base after his “joke” about Beal injuring his hamstring “to keep up” with Stephen Curry in the race for the NBA’s scoring title.
“Fourty-nine minutes in 29 minutes, that’s unreal. We got guys hurting hamstrings to keep up,” Bazemore said early Monday per Monte Poole of NBC Sports.
Bazemore was praising his Golden State Warriors teammate, but the jab seemed unnecessary. That’s how the Washington Wizards superstar Bradley Beal took it. And following the Wizards’ 125-124 loss, in which Beal didn’t play, he fired back with a NSFW response.
“You donāt know me or s— about me bruh!!! You donāt know why I go out there and play and it damn sure aināt for another manās approval!!! You a straight LAME!!! But it donāt surprise me coming from you, thats whatās yo type do!!” Beal wrote on Twitter in one of his series of tweets directed at Bazemore.
Well Bazemore has responded to Beal’s response. After the Warriors secured a 119-116 win over the Utah Jazz, the Warriors forward tried to downplay his earlier comments.
āI guess you canāt joke anymore, but whatever,” Bazemore said per Mark Haynes of ClutchPoints. “I feel like Iām a pretty light hearted guy. I stay in my own lane. I donāt say things to ruffle feathers. But If you want to know where my loyalty is, itās with SC30 (Stephen Curry).”
Even if one takes what Bazemore said as a joke, joking about another player’s injury isn’t a good look, especially in the realm where Bazemore put it. Certainly, Beal didn’t perceive the jab as a joke.
Beal is expected to miss at least the Wizards’ next game, Wednesday against the Hawks. He’ll be re-evaluated Friday to see where his status is for the final two games of the regular season, as Washington tries to lock in a spot for the play-in tournament. They’re currently 10th in the Eastern Conference. Thus no one associated with the Wizards are joking about Beal’s hamstring strain.
Bazemore said he won’t get into Twitter war with Beal. But in he offered his well wishes, sort of.
“Speedy recovery. I hope that helps,ā Bazmore said.
