Russell Westbrook passes Larry Bird on all-time scoring list with monster first half

Russell Westbrook continues to strengthen his first-ballot Hall of Fame resume. A game after he officially became the Triple-Double King of the NBA, Westbrook accomplished another milestone Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks.

With his monster first half, Westbrook passed Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird for 35th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The Washington Wizards point guard had 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. That included him making 4-of-6 three pointers.

Westbrook also added eight assists and four rebounds in 21 minutes, as the Wizards led the Hawks 59-56 at halftime.

Bird finished has 21,719 career points. With his 25 points in the first half, Westbrook has 21,804 points and counting. The next player on the scoring list in sight is Gary Payton. Westbrook needs just 10 additional points to surpass the Seattle Supersonic legend in career points.

Monday, Westbrook surpassed Oscar Robertson for the most triple-doubles in league history with 182.

In addition to other accolades, Westbrook joined LeBron James, Oscar Robertson and Gary Payton as the only players in NBA history with at least 20,000 points and 8,000 assists.

While his game draws praises and criticism from fans alike, one thing is undeniable, Westbrook is compiling one of the best NBA careers ever.
