In many aspects Kyle Schwarber has struggled to adjust with his new team the Washington Nationals. However, one thing is certain, when he makes contact with the baseball it’s likely to result in more than one bag.
Entering today’s action, nine of Schwarber’s 18 hits were for extra bases. Against the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, Schwarber continued his flair for multiple bags, as he belted a two-run home run into let field in the first inning off starter Zach Eflin.
Now three of his four home runs this season have been two-run jacks.
The usually inept Nationals offense got a rare four-run explosion in the first frame of the game. That allowed them to cost to a 5-1 win, snapping a four-game losing streak.
Schwarber added a single and a run scored in the sixth inning.
He now has a batting average of .202 with a .384 slugging percentage. However, he now has four home runs, 12 RBIs and an epic bat drop in 99 at-bats this season. His 32 strikeouts are concerning, but when he connects it results in dramatic fortunes much like his two walk-off homers.
