The Washington Football Team is limiting its rookie minicamp attendance after a rookie tryout player tested positive for COVID-19, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
As a result, Washington’s minicamp for rookies will be restricted to only draft picks and players eligible to participate who were on last year’s roster.
Washington will also reduce the minicamp from three to two days (Friday-Saturday) as a result, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.
Washington selected 10 players in this year’s NFL Draft. The NFL mandated team’s could bring in a maximum of five tryout players. Along with six additional players, Washington was slated to have 21 players at this week’s rookie minicamp. However, their restriction following the positive COVID-19 test will reduced the number of players in attendance to 16.
Two CFL players, defensive back Nelson Lokombo and offensive lineman Logan Bandy, were set to be among the five tryout players. Neither of the players tested positive for coronavirus but won’t get the chance to work out with Washington, according to Jhabvala. The two are now looking for another opportunity elsewhere
Undrafted rookie free agent running back Jaret Patterson is among the 16 players who will be at Washington’s rookie minicamp. Quarterback Steven Montez, recently signed tight end Sammis Reyes, defensive lineman David Bada, offensive tackle Rick Leonard and defensive tackle Daniel Wise will also be in attendance along with this year’s 10 draft picks.
