Dmitry Orlov won’t be disciplined for hit on Kevan Miller but Anthony Mantha fined max for goalie interference

The NHL has come down on Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha for colliding with Boston Bruins goalie Tuuka Rask in Friday’s Game 4. Mantha has been fined the maximum of $5,000 allowed by the collective bargaining agreement for the goalie interference.

However, Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov won’t be disciplined for his huge hit on Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller.

Orlov received a double minor penalty for the hit after officials rescinded their initial ruling of a major.

While Orlov made contact with Miller’s shoulder, the Caps defender left his feet to initiate contact. As Miller fell, it appeared he hit his head on the ice. Miller did not return to the game and was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Miller has since been cleared and is home feeling better. However, he will not play in Sunday’s Game 5 in Washington, per Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic.

Mantha earned two interference penalties in Friday’s game. The fined collision was his second.

The Bruins won the game by the score of 4-1. Boston’s first goal came on the ensuing power play from Orlov’s hit on MIller. The Bruins fourth and final goal of the game came by virtue of the power play from Mantha’s interference.

Boston leads the series 3-1 and can advance to the second round with a win Sunday.
