Believe if or not, Washington Nationals slugger Kyle Schwarber led off Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins with another leadoff home run. Schwarber tattooed a 2-2 curveball from starter Cody Poteet 398 feet into the right field stands of LoanDepot Park.
The blast was his fifth leadoff home run in just his 13th game leading off the Nationals’ lineup.
Schwarber is on an historic tear, hitting 11 home runs since being tabbed the Nationals’ leadoff hitter on June 12.
His five leadoff home runs are already tied for third most all-time in Nationals history. It’s the second-most in a season in franchise history.
Schwarber is now four away from tying Alfonso Soriano’s 2006 output of nine leadoff home runs. It took Soriano 131 games to get to nine. Again, Schwarber is up to five in 13 games.
