The Washington Wizards’ head coach search has been relatively quiet. While names have been linked to the search, news of the interviews has been silent. That is until now.
During an interview with NBA analyst Peter Yannopoulos, Boston Celtics assistant Scott Morrison revealed he has interviewed for the Wizards head coaching position.
Morrison has been on the Celtics’ bench since 2017. He was the head coach of Celtics’ G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, for the three seasons prior to joining Brad Stevens’ staff. He was the G-League’s Coach of the Year in 2015.
Morrison also interviewed for the Celtics head coaching opening following Stevens’ promotion to President of Basketball Operations. Boston’s opening is reportedly being filled by Ime Udoka.
In addition to his experience in the NBA and G-League, Morrison has served as an assistant of the Canadian National Basketball Team since 2016.
Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard appears in no rush to name a head coach. He promised a diverse and patient search. Washington parted ways with former head coach Scott Brooks earlier this month after his five-year contract expired.
Names such as Wes Unseld Jr. and Sam Cassell have been linked as favorites to be the team’s next head coach. Both are former Wizards assistant coaches.
