Report: Wizards had second interview with Ronald Nored for head coach

The Washington Wizards have started their second round of interviews with advancing candidates for their head coach vacancy. Denver Nuggets Wes Unseld has been identified as a “leading candidate” to get the job in a report. However, another report has revealed a new name to receive a second interview with Washington.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, NBA assistant Ronald Nored interviewed a second time with the Wizards.

Nored, 31, was an assistant with the Charlotte Hornets since 2018. However, it is expected he will join Rick Carlisle’s staff with the Indiana Pacers. Now, it appears he is still in the running for head coach with the Wizards.

Washington has interviewed a number of assistant coaches in their search to replace Scott Brooks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported a number of NBA assistants were expected to get a second interview with Washington. Milwaukee Bucks assistants Darvin Ham and Charles Lee, Dallas Mavericks Jamahl Mosley and Unseld were noted in the report.

But seeing Nored’s name come up for a second interview, it’s apparent Washington’s search isn’t exclusive to four mentioned by Wojnarowski. It’s also been reported Sam Cassell is “very unlikely” to become the Wizards next head coach.

Before becoming an NBA assistant, Nored starred at Butler University. There he was a two-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year.
