Max Scherzer is just happy to be alive and well after nearly getting drilled by a comebacker off the bat of Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the MLB All-Star Game. Scherzer was able to duck down in time avoiding the baseball traveling at 111 mph at his head.
The Washington Nationals ace finished the 1-2-3 first inning after striking out Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox. Scherzer was making his fourth All-Star Game start on the mound. Once he was done for the night, he made light of matter after saying “I’m alive.”
As for the “blue eye and a brown eye,” Scherzer was referring to the rare condition he has, heterochromia iridis. His left eye is brown while his right eye is blue.
That aside, MLB and Nationals fans are breathing a sigh of relief Schezer got through the scary moment unscathed.
After being thrown out at first, Guerrero offered his apologies by hugging Scherzer on his way back to the dugout.
