On the eve of the start of their summer league play in Las Vegas, the Washington Wizards announced Cassius Winston, Issuf Sanon and Isaiah Todd have entered the NBA’s Health and Safety Protocols.
Coincidentally, all three are second-round picks. Sanon was the Wizards’ second-round choice in 2016. The 21-year old Ukrainian has been playing for the BC Dnipro of the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague.
Winston was their second-rounder last year. As a rookie, he appeared in 22 games for the Wizards. Playing mostly in mop-up duty, Winston averaged 4.5 minutes and 1.9 points per game. He’s a restricted free agent after the Wizards extended a qualifying offer to him ahead of free agency. Winston is expected back on a two-way contract.
Todd, was the first pick in the second round of this year’s draft. The Wizards acquired his rights in the five-team trade that sent Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers and brought Todd and a host of players, including Spencer Dinwiddie to Washington.
The team added foward Cheick Dallo and guards Asante Gist and Derrick Walton Jr. in replacement.
Washington’s first game in summer league action is Sunday night at 8:00 PM against the Indiana Pacers.
