The Washington Wizards pulled away from the Toronto Raptors in the second quarter of Wednesday’s season opener. Washington opened up a 20-point lead, when Wizards forward Montrezl Harrell picked up the first technical of the season for the team.
Harrell was jawing with Raptors superfan and brand ambassador Drake. Apparently Harrell was rubbing in the 20-point lead to the “Certified Lover Boy.” The referees were not amused with the banter, giving Harrell the technical.
Drake has been known to chirp with NBA players while he sits courtside in Toronto. The most notable sequence was with Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, a couple of years ago.
Following the 98-83 win for the Wizards, Harrell tried to down talk the incident with Drake.
“Me and Drake was laughing,” Harrell explain per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. “There was no problems there. We even talked after the game. It was a cool conversation, but it turned left when the coach started chiming in behind the bench, thinking that barking is something that’s gonna shake me. It’s all good. I don’t need all of Toronto on my bumper now. I don’t need Toronto on my bumper now. Don’t get on my Instagram now. Me and Drake are cool, y’all.”
Nevertheless, Harrell surely got the last laugh with the 15-point win. Harrell contributed 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds off the bench.
