Maryland sophomore running back Isaiah Jacobs has surprisingly entered the NCAA’s transfer portal.
Jacobs committed to Maryland in 2020 as a four-star recruit out of Owasso, Okla. As a freshman last season, he appeared in four games, rushing for 61 yards on 19 carries.
He entered this season as a sophomore with big expectations. However, he has been pushed down the Terrapins’ depth chart at running back. He has appeared in five games rushing for 116 yards on 28 rushes.
Jacobs didn’t play in Maryland’s last two games. He last appeared in a game on Oct. 9 against Ohio State, catching one pass for four yards. An ankle injury kept him out of a 69-0 win over Howard back Sept. 11.
Senior Tayon Fleet-Davis has led the pack of Maryland running backs with 399 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Fellow senior Challen Faamatu has appeared to jump Jacobs for second in the running back rotations with 197 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Jacobs is the younger brother of Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs. Maryland head coach Mike Locksley coached Josh Jacobs at Alabama while Locksley was the Crimson Tide’s co-offensive coordinator.
Their relationship led to Isaiah picking the Terrapins over other Power-5 schools, most notably Oklahoma State, Michigan and Arkansas. But now, Jacobs is looking for a fresh start somewhere else other than Maryland.
