Ryan Zimmerman planning to play in 2022?

Ryan Zimmerman, the face of the Washington Nationals franchise, hasn’t decided if he will return in 2022 for his 17th season in MLB. But while appearing on the Sports Junkies of 106.7 the Fan, Zimmerman says he is “definitely” planning on playing next season.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo has publicly said the door is open for Zimmerman to return. The first ever draft pick for the franchise once it moved from Montreal to Washington will get the chance to call his shot.

Zimmerman appeared in 110 games last year. That was his most since his last All-Star season in 2017.

Zimmerman sat out the 2020 season due to concerns over COVID-19. He returned in 2021, hitting .243./.286/.471 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. He also drew 16 walks in 273 plate appearances.

While the 37-year old Zimmerman contemplates his playing future, he and his wife Heather are expecting their fourth child together.

In the season finale in October, Zimmerman received an emotional farewell from Nationals fans in case it was his last game in a Nats uniform. Yet, it appears his days on an MLB diamond may not be over.
