The New York Mets are looking to make a splash in free agency. SNY’s Andy Martino was first to report the Mets made three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer an offer of $40 million per season.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network adds that the offer to the 37-year old pitcher is three years totaling $120 million.
Max Scherzer compiled a 15-4 record in 2020 with a 2.46 ERA. He was traded in July to the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending seven seasons with the Washington Nationals.
Scherzer joined the Dodgers and went a perfect 7-0 to close out the season. Despite his strong season, he fell short of his fourth Cy Young.
If Scherzer joins the Mets, he will join Jacob deGrom as one of the best top-two rotations in Major League Baseball. His potential addition would also rev up the heated rivalry between the Nationals and Mets.
For seven years, Scherzer wore a ‘Curly W.’ As it stands, Scherzer is more than likely to go into the Baseball Hall of Fame with a Nationals hat. Having him don a Mets uniform would certainly be tough for Nats fans to view.
