Jerry Jones says Cowboys get their most fan support from Washington

If the war or words between the head coaches wasn’t enough, the comments by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have ratcheted up things in the rivalry with the Washington Football Team.

The two NFC East rivals play Sunday at FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Football Team. As many Cowboys and Washington fans know, there is a large contingent of Cowboys fans that pack the home stadium of Washington.

Speaking on Dallas’ 105.3 the Fan, Jerry Jones acknowledged how much support the Cowboys received from the DC area.

“We have always sold more Cowboys memorabilia and had our most positive fan support coming from Washington,” Jones said per Jon Machota. “Outside of the Texas area, Washington is where we have the most support.”

That’s a strong statement by Jones. However it probably is true or close to it. If you live in the DMV area, you’d know how largely the Cowboys are supported in the area.

Jones’ comments should still infuriate Washington players and fans. It certainly adds intensity to already deeply-rooted rivalry.

Not if it needed it. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy guaranteed a win Sunday. Washington head coach Ron Rivera countered by saying McCarthy has made “a big mistake.”

Dallas enters the game 8-4 and in first-place of the division. Washington, meanwhile, is riding a four-game win streak with a 6-6 record.
