Report: Juan Soto brother, Elian, signing with Nationals not Mets

In a major flip, Elian Soto is joining his brother Juan Soto as he is close to signing a deal with the Washington Nationals, according to 106.7 the Fan’s Byron Kerr

Elian Soto is a highly-touted 16-year old prospect from the Dominican Republic. He is not eligible to sign until January 2023. International free agents are able to sign between Jan. 15 and Dec. 15. However, MLB’s minimum age to play is 17, according to Kerr.

The latest news contradicts earlier reports that Elian Soto intended to sign with the New York Mets. The New York Post and a social media post reported Soto was signing with the Mets.

But with Juan Soto signed with the Nationals, and Elian also represented by super agent Scott Boras, one has to believe the Nationals would be a potential landing spot.

Elian bats left-handed and plays third base and in the outfield much like his brother.

Juan Soto, 23, finished second in the National League MVP voting to Philadelphia Phillies Bryce Harper. Soto batted .313/.465/.534 with 29 home runs and 95 RBIs and led MLB with 145 walks.
