Former Washington Football Team great Joe Theismann didn’t hold back his take about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts during Sunday’s Wild Card playoff game.
Hurts struggled mightily in the Eagles’ 31-15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The final score was a lot closer than the actual game.
He threw two interceptions that helped dig Philadelphia into a 31-0 hole through three quarters. The Eagles offense was relegated to short throws and screens which played right into the Buccaneers’ hands.
That prompted Theismann to give a brutally blunt take on Hurts.
“Hurts can’t throw,” Theismann tweeted.
There’s no doubt Hurts was bad Sunday. He was 23-of-43 throwing for 258 yards and one touchdown to go with two interceptions. His best play came at garbage time as the game’s outcome was already clear.
The Buccaneers defense dared the Eagles to throw the ball down the field with numerous single-high safety looks. However, that isn’t how Philadelphia made the playoffs. Thus, Tampa Bay eliminated Philly’s strengths offensively.
Despite the obvious struggles against the Buccaneers, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was pleased with what Hurts accomplished this season.
“I feel really good with what we have in place here at the quarterback position, Sirianni said after the game per Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “He had a great year. I’m really pleased with how he came along this year.”
