Washington Commanders Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen apologized for an earlier tweet that called Adolf Hitler a “military genius.”
During a Twitter-AMA early Wednesday morning, Allen was asked by a fan, “You can have dinner with three people, dead or alive. Who are you inviting?”
Allen responded, “My granddad, Hitler and Micheal Jackson” in a since-deleted tweet.
When the user pressed him on the answer, Allen followed up saying, “Heās a military genius and I love military tactics but honestly I would want to pick his brain as to why he did what he did. Iām also assuming that the people Iāve chosen have to answer all my questions honestly.”
Allen faced backlash from Twitter users. One user tweeted, “I see why Daron Payne wanted to fight you now,” referencing Allen’s sideline confrontation with Commanders teammate Daron Payne.
Shortly afterwards, Allen issued an apology for his Hitler tweet.
One tweet directed to Allen called his comments āunbelievably hurtfulā to Jews.
Allen responded āIām sorry I offended youā and called Hitler āeasily one if not the most evil persons to have ever lived.ā
Hopefully, Allen learned it may not be a good idea to speak of Hitler in a positive light. So many people have been affected for generations due to Hitler’s antics.Ā
