The Washington Capitals have made another move ahead of Monday’s NHL trade deadline. Washington has acquired forward Johan Larsson from the Arizona Coyotes for a 2023 third-round draft pick, according to Samantha Pell of the Washington Post.
The Coyotes will retain 50% of Larsson’s $1.4 million salary for the remainder of the season.
Larsson, 29, is coming off sports hernia surgery in early February. He’s missed the last 19 games. He last played on Jan. 25.
Originally a second-round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild, Johan Larsson played seven seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. But, the last two with Arizona.
This season he has scored six goals and had nine assists in 29 games.
Washington has now brought in two forwards in deals Monday. The Capitals brought back Marcus Johansson in a trade from the Seattle Kraken for Daniel Sprong and two draft picks.
Washington is currently fourth in the Metropolitan division with 80 points with 64 games played. They’re currently in the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and comfortably 13 points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
