Former Maryland interim coach Danny Manning lands new job

Former Maryland men’s basketball interim coach Danny Manning has landed a new job. Manning will be an assistant coach at Louisville under new head coach Kenny Payne.

Manning came to Maryland last season to be an assistant under former Kansas teammate Mark Turgeon. However, Turgeon abruptly stepped down as head coach eight games into the season. Manning was named the interim coach in the aftermath.

Manning coached Maryland’s final 24 games of the season, going 10-14. The Terrapins had a couple of big wins beating Illinois and Ohio State. But ultimately, the team’s season ended with a loss in the Big Ten Tournament to Michigan State.

Maryland hired Kevin Willard, formerly of Seton Hall, as the head coach. Willard has hired his staff, including prominent names David Cox and Tony Skinn, displacing Manning.

Now Manning returns to the ACC with Louisville. He was the head coach at Wake Forest for six seasons from 2014 until 2020.
