The death of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been ruled an accident by the Broward County Medical Examiner, according to the Miami Herald.
Haskins died as a result of multiple “blunt force trauma” when he was hit by a dump truck along I-595 in South Florida on April 9.
Additionally, a toxicology report showed Haskins had more than twice the legal blood-alcohol concentration. One sample returned a result of 0.20 percent. Another came back with a 0.24 reading.
Also, Haskins tested positive for ketamine and norketamine. The two drugs are used for anesthesia and pain relief. However, they commonly are used for recreation.
Haskins was in Florida with his Steelers teammates for training. A Steelers official told the Medical Examiner’s office that Haskins went out to dinner with a friend or cousin named Joey before going to a nightclub Friday night April 8.
The report states Haskins and the friend “drank heavily” and at some point the two got into a fight and had to be separated.
At the time of his death, Haskins’ car was found on the side of the road with a “female companion” inside the vehicle. The woman reportedly said Haskins had left to find gasoline.
Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya, had previously stated she talked to Haskins on the phone a brief time before his death. He told her, he was walking to find gas.
