Nationals’ Joe Ross to undergo MRI on elbow after rehab start

Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Joe Ross made a rehab start Tuesday night with Double-A Harrisburg Senators. Unfortunately, Nationals manager Dave Martinez had a concerning update for Ross on Wednesday.

Ross experienced tightness in his injured elbow during the third inning. He exited the game after completing his third scoreless inning. He threw 31 pitches, hit a batter, allowed two hits and struck out four.

Ross will undergo an MRI Wednesday.

“It’s a concern, because it’s his elbow again,” Martinez told reporters, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports.

Joe Ross last pitched on August 10, 2021. He was shut down last season with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

He started this season on the 60-day injured list. Tuesday night was his first rehab start for him to inch closer to a return to the Nationals. However, the latest setback may pause the process. The results of Wednesday’s MRI will determine how much of a pause Ross will have to endure.
