The Washington Nationals are 18-32 sitting at the bottom of the NL East. The club is embarked in a rebuild, while pondering the future of 23-year old megastar Juan Soto. All while the owners, the Lerner family, contemplate selling the team.
The combination of factors created a buzz around MLB according to ESPN’s Buster Olney, that the Nationals could potentially trade Soto this summer. To add, Soto turned down a $350 million contract offer from the club before the season.
However, the latest report by an MLB insider, Jon Heyman, suggests the Nationals won’t trade Soto. And Nats fans can thank the potential sale of the team for the revelation.
The Nationals have many bidders to buy the team. Those interested in the team has requested Soto be part of the organization when they take over.
That means the club’s potential new owner is committed to paying Soto the money he and his agent Scott Boras are looking for.
Since making his MLB debut in 2018, Juan Soto has emerged as one the best young players in all of baseball. He’s considered the face of the Nationals franchise.
Recently he joined an elite club. Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Mel Ott, and Soto are the only players have 100 doubles, 100 home runs, 300 RBIs, 400 walks and 500 hits before their 24th birthday.
It’ll be hard for the Nationals fanbase to accept Soto to be traded before he ever hit his prime. Especially, considering the same fans watched Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon leave the team in free agency after ownership failed to pay them big contracts. Throw in the club traded Trea Turner last year to avoid paying him as well.
There’s hope Soto is the exception to the rule. Now it appears the sale of the team will be the biggest reason the Dominican stud remains in Washington.
