Detroit Pistons fans were holding their breath as first-round draft pick Jaden Ivey had to leave Saturday’s Summer League game against the Washington Wizards with an ankle injury.
The injury occurred in the first quarter when Ivey rolled his ankle shooting a three. Wizards second-year big man Isaiah Todd closed up on the shot but did not give Ivey space to land.
Todd was assessed a Flagrant-1 penalty. Ivey made the three free throws awarded. But, he immediately limped off the court to the locker room.
The Pistons announced shortly afterwards Ivey was ruled out for the remainder of the game with an ankle sprain.
Ivey left the game with 11 points and two assists. He shot a perfect 2-of-2 from the field, including a three, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. All of which occurred in five minutes of play.
Earlier in the game, Ivey drained a three as Todd gave him too much space.
Unfortunately, the hot start was ruined by the injury. The fifth overall pick in this year’s draft, Ivey has drawn comparisons to Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant. Through five quarters of Summer League play Ivey had looked the part. He had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists Thursday night in his debut. Now, the focus is his ankle injury is minor.
