Washington Commanders wide receiver Dax Milne had his name in headlines recently. However, it wasn’t for anything he did on the field. Instead, Milne set social media ablaze with a photo with his current girlfriend. His girlfriend happened to be the former girlfriend of Milne’s former college teammate, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.
On Friday during Washington’s training camp practice, Milne made a tough catch along the sideline. Some fans in attendance chanted “Mr. Steal Your Girl!” according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.
The phrase was most recently popularized by R&B singer Trey Songz. It fits Milne for the moment. Milne and Wilson were close friends as well. So for Milne to steal Wilson’s girlfriend is a classic savage move.
Not all was lost for Wilson. After receiving backlash for ‘homey hopping’ between the friends, Milne’s girlfriend Abbey Gile threw fire on the flame, saying Wilson hopped around first with his mother’s best friend. In what was supposed to be a damaging claim only increased Wilson’s popularity among fans, his Jets teammates and other NFL players.
Apparently, there were no losers in the situation. Wilson is a second overall pick with a chance to become the Jets franchise QB. Milne, a seventh-rounder, will be fighting to make the Commanders’ 53-man roster. Whether he fights through a loaded receivers group to make the team or not, those fans at training camp gave him a win for a lifetime.
Whenever he grabs a catch on the field or walking past fans, Milne may hear “Mr. Steal Your Girl!” echoing.
