The Washington Commanders not only lost to the Detroit Lions, but they may have suffered a huge blow to its offensive line. Washington’s center Chase Roullier left the game in the second half with a knee injury.
Roullier was on crutches with his right leg wrapped in a sleeve in the locker room after the 36-27 loss. On Monday, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera told the media Roullier could go on short-term injured reserve. However, the situation could be much worse.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Roullier is in danger of missing the rest of the season.
Roullier missed nine games last season after fracturing his left fibula. He started training camp on the physically unable-to-perform list as he recovered from surgery. Unfortunately, he may be down once again just two games into this season.
Wes Schweitzer is in line to start at center in place of Roullier, per ESPN’s John Keim. A sixth-round draft pick in 2017, Roullier is in his sixth season with the Commanders. He earned the starting job late into his rookie year and has since been a mainstay.
Roullier signed a four-year, $40.5 million contract extension at the end of the 2020 season. He had $5.35 million of his 2022 salary guaranteed in March.
