Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie “probably will not play” in the Capitals’ preseason finale on Saturday, head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters Thursday, per Samantha Pell of the Washington Post.
Oshie suffered an upper-body injury in the second period of Wednesday’s preseason win over the Detroit Red Wings when he was hit into the boards. Oshie exited the game and did not return. He was slated to be re-evaluated earlier Thursday.
Laviolette added, “He’s dealing with something.”
Oshie and defenseman Dmitry Orlov are considered day-to-day. Orlov suffered a lower-body injury in the same game Wednesday. However, Orlov finished the game.
Orlov will be re-evaluted Friday.
The Capitals start the regular season on Oct. 12 against the Boston Bruins. Washington’s second game will be the next day Oct. 13 against at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
