Robert Griffin III has made a name for himself as an ESPN analyst. Mixed with his respected insight, Griffin has a habit of dropping quirky one-liners for laughter. Thursday night was no different as Griffin shared a screenshot that went viral much to the chagrin of former NFL running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy.
During the snoozefest between the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, Griffin shared a screenshot of Broncos running back Melvin Gordon looking at quarterback Russell Wilson drinking on the sideline.
The image illustrated Wilson’s struggles throughout the night. The Broncos QB threw two interceptions and looked out of rhythm in Denver’s 12-9 overtime loss.
Gordon appeared to look at Wilson with skepticism. Meanwhile, McCoy was skeptical of Griffin’s intentions which sparked an interesting exchange over Twitter.
Eventually, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders chimed in to draw peace to the situation. He told the two, “Okay fellas that’s enough!” before saying both were “dominant” in their own right.
That didn’t stop McCoy, who questioned Sanders referring to both as “dominant.”
Nonetheless, the sparring between Griffin and McCoy entertained many, yet, the exchange shined an ugly light on both men. McCoy took exception to Griffin joining the pile on Wilson.
That turned into both guys taking shots at each other. McCoy rushed over 11,000 yards and had 73 touchdowns during his 12-year NFL career. He made the Pro Bowl six times and was a two-time All-Pro.
Griffin rose to stardom in college, winning a Heisman Trophy. He became the No. 2 overall pick by Washington in 2012. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn ACL that year. Injuries and his struggles to be a pocket passer led to him being benched by the 2015 season in favor of Kirk Cousins.
Griffin didn’t have an NFL home in 2017. However, he returned in 2018 as a backup quarterback for the final three seasons of his career in Baltimore.
