The Washington Commanders handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the 2022 season. Following the 32-21 win on Monday Night Football, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera was overcome by emotion.
“My mom would be proud,” Rivera muttered as he fought back tears. The Commanders presented him with a game ball in the locker room.
Two weeks ago on Halloween, Rivera’s mother, Dolores Rivera-Munoz, passed away at the age of 82 in Seaside, California from lung cancer. Rivera left the team to visit her a week before she passed.
The Eagles entered the game a perfect 8-0 on the season. But, the struggling Commanders have caught fire with Taylor Heinicke at quarterback, replacing the injured Carson Wentz.
The Commanders forced four Eagles’ turnovers. Washington’s wide receiver Terry McLaurin had 8 catches for 128 yards while running backs Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson each scored a touchdown in the win.
Washington improves to a 5-5 record after the stunning upset of the Eagles.
