Officials missed a pivotal facemask in the Washington Commanders’ Monday Night Football win over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the NFL office didn’t. Commanders linebacker Jamin Davis received a fine of $10,609 for unnecessary roughness when he pulled the facemask of Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert in the fourth quarter.
Jamin Davis was not penalized for the play. The Eagles had the ball following an interception in the fourth quarter as Washington led 23-21. Dallas Goedert caught a pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts. Davis grabbed his facemask, allowing Commanders defensive tackle John Ridgeway to knock the ball free from behind Goedert.
Davis recovered the fumble for the turnover, running the ball to the end zone for the score. However, officials reviewed the play to see if Davis was down by contact. The facemask was not reviewable.
Goedert injured his shoulder on the play. The Eagles placed Goedert on injured reserve this week, forcing him to miss at least the next four games.
The Commanders scored a field goal on the ensuing possession that extended their lead to 26-21. Washington ultimately won the game 32-21, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.
