The Washington Commanders vaunted defensive line feasted on the young Houston Texans offensive line. The Commanders sacked Texans quarterback Davis Mills five times for 42 yards.
Washington’s dominance keyed on rookie left guard Kenyon Green, highlighted by a devastating bullrush by Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen. Allen walked Green into the Texans’ backfield before bringing Mills down in one swoop.
Following the Commanders’ 23-10 win, fellow defensive tackle Daron Payne got asked about Allen’s play on Green.
“Which one? We was [expletive] him up all game,” Payne hilariously said, per Sam Fortier of the Washington Post.
Payne did not fib. He also had his highlight sack via Green.
Washington has won five of its last six games, improving to a 6-5 record. The team has done so on the back of a defense anchored by its defensive line.
Payne and Allen have been a force with edge rusher Montez Sweat. The trio split the five sacks against the Texans. Allen and Sweat each had two, and Payne grabbed one.
Payne and Allen each have 6.5 sacks on the season, and Sweat has 6.0 after a dominant performance in Houston. They can give a little thanks to Green for Sunday’s feast.
