Ron Rivera reveals Commanders new offensive line coach

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera revealed Travelle Wharton has been promoted to offensive line coach, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

New offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy restructured his offensive staff, however, the team is waiting for more clarity with ownership.

Wharton replaces John Matsko, who the Commanders parted ways with in March following Bieniemy’s hire.

Wharton played 115 games in nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Rivera was the Panthers’ head coach for two of those seasons.

After his playing career, Wharton entered coaching as a quality control coach at his alma mater South Carolina. He entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2018 as an assistant offensive line coach with the Panthers in 2018 under Rivera.

Wharton came to Washington in 2020 after Rivera was hired as the Commanders head coach.
