There is a new era with the Washington Wizards. Bradley Beal got traded to the Phoenix Suns, and Kristaps Porzingis was sent to the Boston Celtics. The Wizards have embraced a rebuild around Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma.
The Wizards acquired the 24-year-old Poole in a trade with the Golden State Warriors. Washington sent Golden State Chris Paul, who they got in the Beal trade. Poole gets an opportunity to thrive on his own after spending four seasons with the Warriors, winning a championship alongside superstars Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
Meanwhile, the Wizards shocked many by throwing a curveball by re-signing Kuzma to a four-year, $102 million contract. Kuzma appeared headed elsewhere in free agency. However, he and the Wizards agreed on a deal just as free agency started.
Kuzma expressed his excitement about teaming with Poole by sharing an ESPN edit of the two new teammates standing together in the Wizards’ City uniforms.
“Let’s get it twin @jordan_poole,” Kuzma captioned the photo on his Instagram story.
Poole responded shortly after saying, ‘Yeah! 33,” referencing Kuzma’s jersey number.
Poole averaged career highs of 20.4 points and 4.5 assists while playing all 82 games last season with the Warriors. That’s despite the hurdles and transgressions he faced.
Meanwhile, Kuzma had a career year as well. In his second season with the Wizards, Kuzma averaged a career-high 21.2 points along with 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 64 games. Now, the 6-foot-10 forward returns looking with more responsibility and an increased role with Poole.
The two can combine for some thrilling moments for the Wizards and its fans next season. Wizards fans are excited about the possibilities the two can create, and it’s evident Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole are pumped too.
