Fans of the Washington Commanders are ready to celebrate. July 20, 2023, will be considered one of the best days in the NFL franchise’s history. And Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones understands that.
NFL owners are meeting in Minnesota to vote on the sale of the Commanders franchise from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris. Washington fans have longed for the day Snyder sold the team, and the day is upon us.
As Jones arrived at the meeting, his comment illustrated his understanding of the magnitude of the vote for Washington fans and the NFL.
“I think it’s going to be a great day for the NFL,” Jones said, per Ben Standig of The Athletic. “Excited, and I think it’s a hallmark day. Excited about the prospects of going into Washington and giving ’em some capital punishment.”
Jones has been the longtime owner of the Cowboys. But he’s been one of the most influential owners in the NFL. While Dallas is Washington’s greatest rivalry, Jones also knows having the NFL in good standing in the nation’s capital is good for the league.
Jerry Jones was once Dan Snyder’s biggest ally. Yet, he’s ready to hand out “capital punishment” riding the league of Snyder, showing how their relationship steered recently. Since taking over ownership of the franchise, Snyder’s reign has had more off-the-field hurdles than winning seasons. A vote that ratifies the sale to Harris will be justice for Commanders’ fans.
