Chase Young remains limited with stinger

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young remains limited in practice with a stinger. Young suffered the injury last Friday in Washington’s preseason win over the Cleveland Browns.

He played four snaps before exiting the game. Since then, Young has been held out of team drills, including during the Commanders’ two joint practices against the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said Young is not cleared for full participation yet.

“This is all about getting past a certain point with the doctors, and then we’ll go from there,” Rivera said, per The Athletic’s Ben Standig. “He’s allowed to do everything except for contact right now.”

The Commanders play the Ravens on Monday night. Chances are Young won’t play.

Young is entering a pivotal year in his early career. The Commanders declined his fifth-year option for the 2024 season, making this year a contract year for Young. Chase Young is looking to have his first full season since tearing his ACL and rupturing a patella tendon in Week 10 of the 2021 season.

Earlier in training camp, he proclaimed to feel “explosive again,” which was noticeable in practices. The play that he potentially got the stinger on against the Browns, he showed a burst, nearly sacking quarterback Deshaun Watson.

However, Young’s momentum has stalled with the stinger. He’s participating in individual drills. But there’s nothing like contact reps. Hopefully, the situation does not linger for him, and he continue progressing towards returning to his 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year form.
