New York Giants rookie cornerback Deonte Banks didn’t forget that the Washington Commanders chose Emmanuel Forbes over him with the 16th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. After the Giants completed a season sweep of the Commanders with a 31-19 win on Sunday, Banks didn’t hold back, ripping Washington from the locker room.
“Coulda came and got me at 16, and they didn’t. Now I’m 2-0 against you bum a** boys. “F*** the Commanders,” Banks proclaimed on an Instagram Live post.
Banks ended the rant by saying, “Did 17 play today?”
Banks referenced Commanders top wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin had five catches for 43 yards on seven targets. Banks did not allow a catch when covering McLaurin. However, Banks yielded two catches for 15 yards, including a late Jahan Dotson touchdown, per Pro Football Focus.
Deonte Banks grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended college at the University of Maryland, blossoming into a first-round pick. The Commanders play home games less than 12 miles from Maryland’s campus.
Banks was the fourth cornerback selected in the 2023 draft, as the Giants took him eight spots after Washington picked Forbes.
Forbes has had an up-and-down rookie season, getting benched in Week 6. Meanwhile, Banks has been one of the best rookies in the NFL. Not getting picked by the nearby team certainly hasn’t left the mind of Banks.
Some Commanders fans have commonly compared Forbes to another cornerback Washington passed, Christian Gonzalez. Banks may be more comparable because he plays within the NFC East.
