Despite the ugly showing by his defense in Sunday’s NFC Wild Card playoff loss, the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will draw plenty of interest for head coach openings around the NFL.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Dan Quinn will have a series of virtual interviews this week, including with NFC East rivals, the Washington Commanders.
Quinn will start his interview week on Wednesday with meetings with the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans. He will meet with the Commanders on Thursday and the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday.
The Commanders officially named Adam Peters as their new general manager on Monday. Peters expects to jump right into the head coach search. The Commanders have already met with Baltimore Ravens assistants Anthony Weaver and Mike Macdonald.
Washington is also reportedly interested in Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
Dan Quinn looking to get second chance as head coach
Quinn has also been connected with the Seattle Seahawks, who have requested an interview with him. Quinn was the Seahawks defensive coordinator during the 2013-2014 seasons in which the team reached back-to-back Super Bowls, winning the Big Game in 2013. He was considered the architect of the “Legion of Boom” defense.
Quinn then became the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons, leading the team to a Super Bowl LI appearance against the New England Patriots. He compiled a 43-42 record as the Falcons head coach.
After back-to-back playoff appearances in his second and third year, Quinn failed to reach the postseason in his next three seasons and got fired after a 0-5 start in the 2020 season.
Quinn has been the Cowboys defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. This season, the Cowboys’ defense ranked fifth in yards allowed and fifth in points allowed.
Dallas went 12-5 during the regular season, winning the NFC East division title and earning the No. 2 seed in the NFC. However, the Cowboys were stunned by the Green Bay Packers in a wild-card round 48-32.
