Maryland senior guard Darryl Morsell had successful surgery to repair a fractured bone in his face. He is expected to miss 1-2 weeks, the school announced Friday.
Morsell was injured in the first half of Thursday’s loss to Michigan. He was elbowed in the face by Michigan’s Franz Wagner.
Morsell immediately left the game following the hit with a visible dent on the side of his face. Despite wanting to return to the game after intially being evaluated by team trainers, he did not return to the game.
Following the 84-73 defeat, head coach Mark Turgeon announced Morsell was being taken to a trauma center in Baltimore where his parents were meeting him.
Morsell posted an update himself via Twitter.
Maryland (6-4, 1-3 in the Big Ten) has four games scheduled during the timetable provided for Morsell’s injury. The Terrapins are slated to play at Indiana (Jan. 4), Iowa (Jan. 7), at Illinois (Jan. 10) and Nebraska (Jan. 16).
Morsell averages 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 10 games this season.
