Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal had his worst game of the season despite a comeback win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The three-time all-star missed his first 10 shots from the field. He finished 4-of-19 from the field, including 1-of-5 from three for 13 points — his lowest point total of the young season.
After the game, Beal revealed his grandmother passed away on Tuesday. He learned of her passing just as the team’s plane landed in Cleveland.
Beal admitted he wasn’t mentally into the game, calling his grandmother his second mother.
He briefly considered not playing in Wednesday’s game, but ultimately did. He was able to zero in enough during the final moments of the game with two crucial passes each leading into clutch three-pointers by Kyle Kuzma.
Beal finished the game with seven rebounds and seven assists to go with his 13 points.
The Wizards erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to rally for a 97-94 win. The win improved Washington to an Eastern Conference-best 8-3 record.
Beal credited his Wizards’ teammates for carrying the team to victory. Wizards center Montrezl Harrell had game-highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Kuzma made six threes, including the go-ahead with 11.4 seconds left, to finish with 22 points.
