Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels exited Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys with a hamstring injury. Daniels limped off the field right into the medical tent in the third quarter following a sack. He did not return to the game, prompting observers to immediately compare Daniels to Washington’s former sensational QB, Robert Griffin III.
Regina Jackson, the mother and agent of Jayden Daniels, responded via social media, wishing fans to “stop manifesting” RGIII on her son.
“I wish you would stop manifesting RGIII on my son. Words are powerful and that’s all that’s talked about 🙏🏽🙏🏽,” Jackson tweeted.
Jackson is protecting her son. Meanwhile, the Commanders fans are growing increasingly concerned due to the immediate parallels between the two former Heisman Trophy winners.
Griffin and Daniels were each the No. 2 overall pick in their drafts. Griffin won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, leading Washington to an unexpected NFC East divisional title. However, his second season marked the beginning of his downfall, due to injury and regression following a torn ACL in the playoffs of his rookie season.
Daniels, too, won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and took the league by storm. He guided the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game in his first year. Yet, his second season has been marked by struggles, marred by a Week 2 knee injury that forced him to miss two games.
He returned two weeks ago. However, Sunday’s injury was yet another setback for the young QB. Jayden Daniels’ second injury, just seven weeks into the season, has fans feeling frantic. This year was supposed to be a natural progression to build on last year’s magical run.
Except that injuries to the franchise quarterback have brought back nightmarish thoughts of Griffin’s demise. Hopefully, Daniels can shake his latest blemish and ease the nerves of fans.
