Sure seems like Ron Rivera trolled ‘Coach’ Jason Garrett

Sunday reporters served up an opportunity for Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera to poke some fun at New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

Thursday, Garrett had an awkward exchange with New York media that left some puzzled.

As Rivera ended his presser, some reporters thanked “Ron.” That’s when the head coach seized the chance to joke with them.

Surely, Rivera winked and made it clear he was having some fun with them. That’s the exact opposite feeling Giants reporters were left with by Garrett.

Did Garrett demand to be called “coach?”

ESPN’s Todd Archer tried to clarify by explaining it was a normal thing for Garrett when he was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett was more getting on the reporters for not saying “good to see you” back to him.

Nonetheless, Rivera’s “coach” remark was clear and lightened up the media room.

Maybe Garrett was misinterpreted in large due to the recent exchange between Jackson State head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders had with a reporter who refused to call him “Coach.” Sanders walked out of the SWAC Media Day as a result.

Safe to assume there won’t be similar issues in Washington with Coach Rivera.
