Despite leading 1-0, the Washington Nationals were hitless against New York Mets ace Noah Syndergaard through five innings. That changed when Victor Robles hit a solo home run to right to lead off the sixth.
The Nationals scored a run in the second when Wilmer Difo hit a sacrifice fly to score Juan Soto from third. Syndergaard walked Soto and Ryan Zimmerman to start the inning, his only blemishes on the day until Robles’ home run.
The solo blast was the young Robles’ second home run of the season. He has hit ninth in the lineup with the idea of flipping the order with him with Adam Eaton and Trea Turner at the top of the order.
Despite being at the end of the order, Robles has thrived when leading off an inning. So much so, with Turner out indefinitely with a broken index finger, there’s speculation that maybe it’s time Robles goes to the top of the order?
