Bryce Harper’s 13-year tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies has gotten off to a rocky start. Harper has struggled at the plate much of the season and Phillies fans have let him know their frustration.
Saturday night presented another opportunity for Harper to be booed at home at Citizens Bank Park. This time against his former team the Washington Nationals.
Harper went 1-for-4 striking out three times to drop his batting average to .235 on the season. In his last at-bat Harper went down swinging against Nationals reliever Kyle Barraclough, chiming the boos from the Phillies fans.
Harper’s 41 strikeouts on the season is second-most in the National League.
The Philly crowd is more unforgiving than the Washington fans. And given the Philllies are locked into a $300 million commitment for the high-priced slugger, any kinks in the armor are sure to displease the Phillies fans. And to think, there’s still 12.5 more years left for their marriage.
