The Washington Wizards schedule is starting to shape out head of the NBA’s official release of the entire schedule. According to Candace Buckner of the Washington Post, the Wizards will open the season on Oct. 18 against the Miami Heat. Buckner notes the game is tentatively scheduled to be a home game for Washington, however, the league may change the location by the time the official schedule is released.
If the site of the game is not changed, it will be the second straight season the Wizards opened the regular season at home and just third time since 2008 they’ve opened at home.
The league did officially announce the Wizards will host the Toronto Raptors, the team that eliminated Washington in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last spring, on Oct. 20 at Capital One Arena, giving the Wizards back-to-back home games to start the season. That game will be televised on NBA TV.
In addition, Buckner has noted that the Wizards will play Oklahoma City on Nov. 2 in a nationally televised game on ESPN and will host the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 21 — Martin Luther King Day. The Wizards will also play the New York Knicks in London at the O2 on Jan. 17.
The Wizards and Heat split the four-game season series with Miami edging out the Wizards by one game to claim the Southeast Division title. Both teams are expected to be the premier teams in the division.
The Wizards will unveil their new look roster that includes the additions of Dwight Howard at starting center and guard Austin Rivers and forward Jeff Green off the bench to go along with the dynamic duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal as well as Otto Porter, Markieff Morris, and Kelly Oubre.
