The madness of March is officially upon us, and if you’re looking for pure, unadulterated college hoops chaos, look no further than the Atlantic 10. But grab a Terrible Towel instead of a Metro card, because the 2026 A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship is taking over Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena!
Celebrating its monumental 50th Anniversary, the conference has moved its flagship event back to its roots in Western Pennsylvania. From March 11–15, all 14 teams will battle it out in a five-day, single-elimination gauntlet with an automatic NCAA Tournament bid on the line.
Here’s everything you need to know heading into the 2026 A-10 Tournament:
The Heavyweights: Co-Champions Collide
The regular season gave us a thrilling dead heat at the top, with two squads establishing themselves as the definitive teams to beat:
- #1 Saint Louis Billikens (27-4, 15-3 A-10): The Billikens roll into Pittsburgh as the top seed and a nationally ranked powerhouse (No. 25 in the AP Poll). Earning the #1 seed via a head-to-head tiebreaker over VCU, SLU has been an absolute offensive juggernaut this season. They already have an at-large NCAA bid practically locked up, but they’ll be hungry to cut down the nets to prove their dominance.
- #2 VCU Rams (24-7, 15-3 A-10): Sharing the regular-season crown, the Rams boast their signature suffocating defense. VCU is sitting squarely on the NCAA tournament bubble right now, meaning a deep run—or an outright tournament win—is critical to guaranteeing their spot in the Big Dance.
The Contenders with Byes
Earning a double-bye directly into the Friday quarterfinals is a massive advantage in a demanding five-day tournament. Keep a close eye on these two rested squads:
- #3 Saint Joseph’s (21-10, 13-5 A-10): The Hawks have quietly put together a fantastic 21-win season and ride into Pittsburgh as the hottest team in the league, boasting a blazing six-game winning streak.
- #4 Dayton (21-10, 12-6 A-10): You can never count out the Flyers in March. They boast one of the most tested rosters in the conference and are always a threat to string together three gritty wins in three days.
The Dark Horses & Hometown Heroes
- #5 George Mason (23-8, 11-7 A-10): Don’t let the 5-seed fool you; GMU has the most overall wins of anyone outside the top two seeds. They have the firepower to upset the apple cart and make a deep weekend run.
- #7 Duquesne (17-14, 9-9 A-10): Never sleep on the Dukes! Not only are they the hometown team playing in their own backyard at PPG Paints Arena, but they also won the A-10 championship recently in 2024 and know exactly what it takes to survive the pressure of this tournament.
The Schedule Breakdown
The A-10 abandoned the practice day between the quarterfinals and semifinals this year, meaning it’s a pure, unyielding basketball marathon:
- Wednesday, March 11: First Round (Seeds 11-14 tip off the action)
- Thursday, March 12: Second Round (Seeds 5-10 enter the fray)
- Friday, March 13: Quarterfinals (Top 4 seeds wake up and play)
- Saturday, March 14: Semifinals (Broadcast on CBS Sports Network)
- Sunday, March 15: Championship Game (1:00 PM EST on CBS)
The Verdict: While Saint Louis looks like the most complete and efficient team in the field, the A-10 tournament is historically a playground for bracket-busting upsets. VCU’s bubble motivation makes them incredibly dangerous, St. Joe’s is red-hot, and hometown Duquesne could easily ride the local crowd’s energy to a Cinderella run. Buckle up!
