The Washington Redskins pass rush, especially off the edge has been non-existent the first two weeks of the season. And free agent — former Redskins edge rusher — Junior Galette is taking notice. On Sunday sometime towards the end of the Redskins’ 21-9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Galette made another plea to be employed by his former team.

“I can help right now though” was the message Galette sent tagging the Redskins official Twitter page in the process.
And maybe he can?
The Redskins have just three sacks through the first two weeks of the season. Two coming from an interior defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis and other belonging to sub-package outside linebacker Ryan Anderson. The hurries have been just as limited, especially off the edge with cornerstones Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith being silenced for the most part.
On Sunday against the Colts, Luck often times had time in the pocket to deliver passes down the field to his receivers. Still the Redskins intercepted Luck twice, including a tipped pass by inside linebacker Mason Foster after the defensive front failed to apply pressure. That failed pressure sans a few snaps was what stood out negatively about the Redskins defense.
Whether or not Galette can help the pass rush remains to be seen. The team opted to sign Pernell McPhee over Galette after he admitted to turning down a two-year offer worth $10 million. His plea comes after he said he regrets turning down the offer. He hasn’t signed on with another team despite workouts with Seattle and the Los Angeles Rams. He stated that he reached out to Redskins head coach Jay Gruden recently, but was told the team is fine with the edge rushers they have. Edge rushers that have yet to make a huge impact in either game this season.
Last season with the Redskins, Galette recorded three sacks in 16 games. He was coming off torn Achilles tendons suffered in each of the previous two seasons. Turning down such an offer like the one the Redskins reportedly made may not have been the wisest of moves. He apparently knows that and now just wants back on the field to play and help the Redskins. Whether or not the Washington feels a need to reach out is another story, but cannot fault the man for trying, right?
